Trinity Village provides hands-on learning opportunities to students from many disciplines. Please review the following information to learn more about Student Placements at Trinity Village.


Getting Started

In order to secure a student placement Trinity Village please contact the Academic Coordinator at your educational institution. It is your Academic Coordinator who should work to secure a placement for you at Trinity Village.  Academic Coordinators at all educational institutions that have a standing affiliation agreement with will have a contact at Trinity Village through which they can secure a placement for clinical training. In the case that your Academic Coordinator does not have a contact and/or an affiliation agreement with our Organization, it is important that your Academic Coordinator contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Mandatory Requirements

Each student wishing to complete a work placement Trinity Village must provide a signed and completed an Unpaid Work/Education Placement Agreement. This form must be submitted to the Volunteer/Student Coordinator prior to beginning your placement.

  • The Organization has a legal obligation in accordance with the Ontario Public Hospitals Act to ensure that all persons performing regular activities in the facility comply with Communicable Disease Protocols. When both the Academic Coordinator and the Student Placement Coordinator have approved a placement, it is the student’s responsibility to schedule a Health and Immunization review. This must be done at least two weeks prior to the student beginning their placement. * Please note that all Conestoga College students are exempt from this requirement.

    Immunization record requirements include documentation of the following:
    • a 2-step Tuberculosis Skin Test (a recent chest x-ray is required if the TB skin test is positive);
    • Proof of Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Chicken Pox vaccination or lab immunity
    • Other vaccinations including Tetanus/Diphtheria, Hepatitis B and Influenza are strongly recommended
  • All students wishing to complete a placement at Trinity Village require a Vulnerable Police/Criminal Records Check. To obtain a Police Check you will need to contact the Waterloo Regional Police Department or your local police department. You or your educational facility is responsible for the charge that is associated with this, which is approximately $30.00. If you live in Waterloo Region, the Waterloo Regional Police offer a reduction in the cost of a Police Check for volunteer or unpaid placements (reduced cost is $10). You will require a letter in order to qualify for this reduction which can be obtained from the Volunteer/Student Coordinator at Trinity Village. Once completed please submit the Police Check to Volunteer/Student Coordinator prior to beginning your placement.
  • All students must sign a Privacy, Confidentiality & Acceptable Use Agreement . This signed agreement must be submitted before your placement begins as you will not be given computer access until this form has been completed. Completed forms should be submitted to the Trinity Village Volunteer/ Student Coordinator.

Volunteer Agreement/Release and Waiver
As a volunteer applying to perform duties for Trinity Village, I fully understand and agree to the following:

1. I will respect the resident’s right to privacy and their right to be treated with dignity, understand and support the Residents-Bill of Rights.
2. I will meet my time and duty commitments or provide adequate notice.
3. That I will not receive remuneration, salary, wage or payment of any employee benefit whatsoever, or be covered by Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997, S.O. 1997 Chapter 16, Sch. A. in case of injury during the completion of my volunteer duties.
4. That I will immediately notify the appropriate supervisor of any incident that involves personal injury or property damage during my volunteer duties.
5. That the volunteer placement may be terminated by either party following consultation with the Volunteer Coordinator.
6. I acknowledge that volunteer activity may involve personal risk of damage or injury. Notwithstanding this acknowledgement, I hereby release Trinity Village, employees, residents and agents from all claims for damage or injury to myself resulting from my participation as a volunteer, unless such damage or injury is caused solely by the gross negligence of Trinity Village.
7. I understand that a volunteer position is conditional upon a 60 day probationary period, during which all statements made on this application may be verified.
8. It is my responsibility to read and understand the volunteer handbook outlining the procedures and guidelines of Trinity Village. I also agree to follow these policies, procedures and guidelines as outlined in the Volunteer Handbook.
9. I understand and agree that privileged information received about residents, volunteers and/or staff of Trinity Village is confidential. I understand that I do not have access to a resident’s chart and that if I require information about specific residents in order to fulfill my duties, it will be shared with me by the Volunteer Coordinator and/or Recreation staff. I also understand that information about a resident’s specific needs or behaviour is to be discussed in an area outside the hearing of others and I will refer family member’s requests for information to either the Director of Recreation or Charge Nurse. Failure to maintain confidentiality may be cause for my immediate dismissal or will be means of corrective action.
10. I hereby give permission to Trinity Village for use of my picture in any promotional material including advertising, brochures, publications, video productions and other uses. I waive the right to any fee or compensation for either the photographic sitting or the use or reproduction of the resulting photographs in any medium. I understand these materials may be used by Trinity Village.

By agreeing to the terms listed above, I acknowledge having read, understood and agreed to the above conditions, release and waivers, for any role that I am assigned and agree to perform for Trinity Village.
